Moon Racer
Moon Racer
Moon Racer takes their name from the winged lion who rules over an island haven for misfit toys in the 1964 stop-animation film, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. With the same loyal commitment to the weird and sentimental, Autumn E. creates fuzzy keyboard pop songs in her bedroom in Durham, North Carolina, leaning heavily on vintage Casios and Tascam 4-track cassette recorder.

Is it Really a Secret? is a hazy, lo-fi spell of distorted beats, warm synths & melodically melancholic vocals. It is a diary, written from one January to the following October, narrating the frenzy of new love, its confusing dissolution, and finally, tender consignment to the past.
Beauty World
Beauty World
In Durham, there are two Beauty Worlds: There's the store on Avondale Drive, one of a few locations, that's a sprawling palace of every beautification item you could ever want. And then there's the band, which is just two people—Leah Gibson and Duncan Webster—who craft warm, cozy tunes from cello and guitar. The band also features Zach Hegg on drums live. Before Beauty World, Leah was a member of Lost In The Trees and Duncan performed in Hammer No More The Fingers. Beauty World's slim arrangements on its self-titled 2014 EP were gentle and charming, but newly layered vocals and more intricate percussion make for delightful additions. The song's colorful, synthy backdrop lends Beauty World a rich new sound that it hadn't quite developed for its first EP. -IndyWeek
