Lauren Sarah Hayes
Lauren Sarah Hayes
Lauren Sarah Hayes is a musician and sound artist who builds and performs with hybrid analog/digital instruments. Lauren is a "positively ferocious improvisor" (Cycling '74), her music refusing to sit nicely between free improv, experimental pop, techno, and noise. Over the last decade she has developed and honed a deliberately challenging and unpredictable performance system that explores the relationships between bodies, sound, environments, and technology. The Wire described her most recent album MANIPULATION (pan y rosas discos) as “skittering melodies and clip-clopping rhythms suggesting a mischievous intelligence emerging from this web of wires.”

She has developed several haptic (touch-based) interfaces and composes music that can be experienced physically as vibration throughout the body. She also enjoys creating site-responsive performances in unusual locations, recently playing four sold-out shows in Hamilton Mausoleum (famous for having one of the longest echoes of any manmade structure) as part of Sonica Festival.

For years, Lauren has given multisensory workshops, including for those with sensory impairment, learning difficulties, and autism. Her person-centered approaches often result in customized instruments made specifically for an individual. She is currently Assistant Professor of Sound Studies within the School of Arts, Media and Engineering at Arizona State University and is a member of the New BBC Radiophonic Workshop.
Carla dal Forno
Carla dal Forno
Carla dal Forno is an Australian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, currently based in Berlin. She is a member of the groups F ingers and Tarcar, and formerly cult Melbourne outfit Mole House. Autumn 2016 sees the release of her debut solo album, You Know What It’s Like, on Blackest Ever Black.
Aïsha Devi
Aïsha Devi
No one on this planet sounds like Aïsha Devi. Her voice is her most powerful tool among a repertoire of thumping beats and rave stabs, seraphic and guttural throat singing, mystical linguistics, and corporeal sonics. Her music is spiritual and her live shows are transcendent experiences. She is a rebel and a radical alchemist who is breaking barriers and traversing dimensions with her art.

Born by the Swiss alps with Nepalese-Tibetan heritage, a transversal of cultural and spiritual identity was forged, guiding both her personal and creative process as a non-conformed seeker. Devi applies meditation techniques in her approach to production and performance, channeling metaphysical research, ritualistic practice and healing frequencies into an alternate club paradigm.
Stud1nt
Stud1nt
Stud1nt is a multi-instrumentalist and DJ from Queens. Their original compositions and rapid-fire mixes sit in between the spontaneity of jazz improvisation and meticulous approaches to arrangement. They create across genres, nodding to the pulsating, hypnosis of experimental electronic music and the euphoria of ambient loops and psychedelic riffs.

Also a member of the queer media collective #kunq, their work is attentive to the politics of queer bodies in relation to sound and space. stud1nt has presented their workshops on creative production at Vassar College, the New School, Recess Art, Pioneer Works, and Ableton Loop. They have been featured in the New Yorker, Resident Advisor, Pitchfork, the Fader, FACT Magazine, and MixMag. Notable performances include sets for Boiler Room New York, MoMA PS1, GHE20G0TH1K, the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival, Ableton Loop x CDR Klubnacht at Tresor, and the 3hd Festival at OHM.
Umfang
Umfang
Discwoman co-founder Umfang was born in the Bronx, grew up in Kansas and has been living in Brooklyn since 2010. She holds the monthly residency Technofeminism at Bossa Nova Civic Club focusing on emerging talent and an affection for vinyl.

Recent highlight appearances include a seven-hour open-to-close set at Hott Mass Pittsburgh, her debut at Berghain, an extended set at De School Amsterdam, Corsica Studios London, Kaiku Helsinki, Brutaz Warsaw, closing the first night of Sustain Release Year III, and an intimate set at Video Club in Bogotá. Her amorphous polyrhythmic techno productions have been released by Ninja Tune, 1080p, videogamemusic, and Phinery.
