Advance Base
Advance Base
Advance Base is new music by Casiotone for the Painfully Alone mastermind Owen Ashworth. Under his new moniker, Ashworth conjures dreamy waltzes, heavy-hearted ballads & electropop-styled torch songs from antiquated instruments such as Rhodes electric pianos, Omnichords, Wurlitzer rhythm boxes, & samplers. Advance Base songs deal with deceased racehorses, estranged siblings, hard feelings, & all things long lost. A Shut-In's Prayer, the debut album from Advance Base, was number 19 on MOJO Magazine's Best Albums of 2012 list.
The World Is In A Bad Fix Everywhere, an EP of early 20th century gospel music composed by Washington Phillips, was released June 25, 2013. The Chicago Reader included The World Is In A Bad Fix Everywhere on its Best of Chicago 2013 list. An EP of Magnetic Fields covers called Tomorrow's Homes Today was released later that year as a limited edition cassette, & went out of print almost immediately.
Advance Base released a digital mixtape of compilation tracks & rarities called Plastic Owen Band on November 3, 2014. Nephew in the Wild, a new album of original material, was released August 21, 2015 by Orindal (US/AQ) & Tomlab (EU/UK). PopMatters named Nephew in the Wild the #1 Indie Pop album of 2015.
Greg Jamie
Greg Jamie
Maine-based singer, songwriter and guitarist Greg Jamie combines the textural with the tuneful on his new album, Crazy Time. There are echoes of the dark, eerie qualities of Jamie’s previous work (with his bands O’Death and Blood Warrior), but his solo work inhabits a sonic space all its own. Traditional folk melodies contrast cold, synthetic textures, generating an unsettling tension between intimacy and mystery. The atmosphere evokes both the weight of cold, New England winters and the ethereality of a sci-fi dreamscape. Lyrical themes confront notions of disappointment, inevitability, mental illness and adventure. Elements of the uncanny and playful are embraced in order to avoid predictable patterns and dismantle preconceptions of loner-folk. In his first official solo effort, Greg Jamie has crafted a singular work of disorienting beauty.

Crazy Time was released on vinyl, cassette & digital formats by Orindal Records on January 19, 2018.

Moon Racer
Moon Racer
Moon Racer takes their name from the winged lion who rules over an island haven for misfit toys in the 1964 stop-animation film, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. With the same loyal commitment to the weird and sentimental, Autumn E. creates fuzzy keyboard pop songs in her bedroom in Durham, North Carolina, leaning heavily on vintage Casios and Tascam 4-track cassette recorder.

Is it Really a Secret? is a hazy, lo-fi spell of distorted beats, warm synths & melodically melancholic vocals. It is a diary, written from one January to the following October, narrating the frenzy of new love, its confusing dissolution, and finally, tender consignment to the past.
