Defacto Thespian
Defacto Thespian
There’s a new reality in the North Carolina hip hop scene in 2019. The talent present in the region that’s gone undiscovered is no longer a secret. With the continued success of artists such as J.Cole, Rapsody and her recent Grammy nomination for Laila's Wisdom, Phonte’, Da Baby. Names such as King Mez and Drugs Beats working with Dr. Dre, and many other up and coming artists , the entire state has become a hotbed for emerging NC emcees. Now, here comes a new challenger. Defacto Thezpian, one of the next rising stars from Durham, NC

Quoted by Young Guru to have "undeniable flow". Voted Best Hip Hop Artist at the 2015 Carolina Music Awards, and long-time stage actor (hence the name), Defacto Thezpian’s lyrical prowess continues to have him mentioned as an elite in the Triangle area. In 2017 he released the ambitiously triumphant Burgundyskylines. More recently he’s been featured on K97.5FM’s Carolina Waves/919 Radio, and notable blogs such as 2DopeBoyz, Thisis50 & HipHopDX, as well as festival stages like the 2016 A3C/Swisher Sweets Artist Project Showcase & YouBloomLA. He has also performed for NC State University & the North Carolina State Fair. Defacto’s momentum carried over on to the Aff and Friends Tour, making stops in Brooklyn, St. John’s University, Charlotte, Wilmington, and Roanoke VA. Now, is a currently touring artist all over the U.S and abroad. One of the best live performers in the area, Defacto has already shared the stage with notable artists Dead Prez, Raekwon, Nappy Roots, Camp Lo, Joshua Gunn, Audio Push, Snow Tha Product, Pac Div, , as well as The Real Laww.
Gemynii (The Conjure)
Gemynii (The Conjure)
Gemynii is a self taught artist who creates paintings focus mainly on abstract portraits and figures of people of color and is influenced heavily by social issues, music, body and gender acceptance, and the over all Black experience. Her work can often render audiences uncomfortable, forcing them to critically think about blackness, representation and the body in a white supremacist capitalist patriarchal society and within the contemporary art world. She currently lives and creates in Durham NC
Cam Jones
Cam James, born Cameron James Williams, is a hip-hop artist with a powerful voice; engaging, entertaining lyricism and a widespread commercial appeal. He's a storyteller who specializes in weaving potent messages into songs with strong, melodic hooks and lush instrumentals from a diverse array of producers. He was influenced by Nas, OutKast and 90's R&B; using that foundation to build his own sound. At Georgia Tech in 2011, he started turning his spoken word pieces into rap verses. These rough and unpolished sessions became cohesive solo projects over years of trial and error. The professional resume is brief, but noteworthy. Cam has risen from dorm rooms to major stages, culminating in selections for some of the largest national music festivals in 2016-2017(A3C, SXSW). Following his first TV placement on BET's Being Mary Jane in September 2017 ("Tell Me", S4 E19), he released his independent sophomore album, leviTAPE, in December 2017. Cam starred in an international tourism campaign for Visit The USA in Spring 2018 that debuted in ten countries, joined the independent collective Art By Sound in late 2018 and is preparing to release his third studio album, To Whom It May Concern, in 2019.
Jooselord
Jooselord
An artist with hip-hop beginnings established in the war zones of North Carolina battle rap has the ultimate advantage when it comes to knowing how to defeat their competition; Jooselord Magnus is a prime example. Durham was first introduced to Joose as the young battle rapper whose punchlines were so clever, but so vicious it would make you feel bad for his opponent for even attempting to win. While winning various battles, like his recent farewell battle victory against DMT, Jooselord has built his foundation in North Carolina hip-hop, and is ascending now as one the top hip-hop rookies in the Carolina rap game. Successfully hosting his “Old Fashioned Un-American Barn Burner” two-day concert event last winter and being nominated for Carolina Music Awards “Best New Artist” of 2017 are just a few of Jooselord’s achievements since he debuted as a performer just one year ago.
